MY CAREER IN SIX SPOTLIGHT

 KIM KUZMAK

  Lifestyle Benefits, Partnerships & Brand

 American Express

Sharing her career journey by answering the six questions below.

Who or what has been your biggest source of inspiration throughout your career?

My biggest sources of inspiration are the authentic leaders I’ve worked with, who have been honest and supportive, pushing me to grow as a leader myself. Additionally, my family plays a crucial role; my husband is my greatest advocate, and I strive to be a strong female role model for my son, who motivates me to succeed.

Would you say your success is primarily due to luck or hard work?

Definitely both! I think if you work hard and you are a good person luck will find you.

What is the driving force behind your career aspirations?

My career aspirations are driven by my passion for the work I do and my belief in its impact. I thrive in organizations that support continuous learning and development, which motivates me to take on new challenges. For instance, I recently transitioned from our merchant business to our issuing side of the business, leading Lifestyle Benefits, Partnerships and Brand, which reflects my desire to grow and contribute more.

If given the chance to do one thing differently in your career, what would it be and why?

I believe that a willingness to take risks and explore new opportunities is essential for career growth. Relocating to Toronto nearly six years ago felt like a significant leap, and it took me a long time to gather the courage to make that move. In hindsight, I wish I had taken that step sooner.

What was your most favourite job/role and why?

Choosing a favorite job is difficult because I’ve enjoyed aspects of all my roles. However, leading the third-party acquisition team stands out as my favorite so far. This position has been dynamic, challenging me in many ways. It also revealed my passion for building strong partnerships and the creativity involved in that process.

Do you have a favourite motto or quote that guides your professional life?

“Life isn’t about finding yourself; it’s about creating yourself.” This reminds me to focus on my passions and take charge of my own future. Additionally, “Your career is not a sprint; it’s a marathon.” It emphasizes the importance of enjoying the journey rather than fixating on titles or timelines. Embrace lateral moves, learn continuously, and build your own brand equity along the way!
