MY CAREER IN SIX SPOTLIGHT
Rebecca Tissington
Head of Strategic Growth
Cuscal Limited
Sharing her career journey by answering the six questions below.
Who or what has been your biggest source of inspiration throughout your career?
The clients and partners I’ve worked with to deliver value for the client and revenue growth for my team and enterprise have been my career inspiration.
I’m inspired by building trust & relationships. Understanding the complexity clients in financial services navigate, whether in payments, regulation, or scaling their business has always pushed me to present practical, impactful solutions, simplifying complexity.
I’ve been fortunate to work with leaders who balance ambition with accountability, whilst being centred on being very very human. That combination has really shaped how I lead today.
Would you say your success is primarily due to luck or hard work?
Hard work. I have always aspired to work smarter to make more luck, however I am blessed with a deep well of energy I draw on a great deal.
Hard work applied with the right foresight and instinct has created some awesome luck. Good timing and great people around you always play a role but you still need to show up and execute.
Consistency, resilience, and a willingness to step into uncomfortable opportunities that test your knowledge and even more scary, your brand, have been the biggest drivers & most rewarding periods of success.
What is the driving force behind your career aspirations?
Building meaningful relationships that have created scalable impact.
I’m motivated by creating growth, whether that’s for clients, for the business, or for the teams and people I lead. In payments especially, there’s a real opportunity to solve complex problems and enable better outcomes across the ecosystem.
If given the chance to do one thing differently in your career, what would it be and why?
I would have developed a stronger love of learning yet, more confidence that no one knows everything. This may have prompted me to take a few more calculated risks earlier.
Often the biggest growth comes from stepping into the unknown, like new roles, new industries, or ambiguous challenges. This is certainly what I dived into leading Strategic Growth across multiple product domains at Cuscal, some of which I have worked with but am far from an SME.
Backing yourself sooner can accelerate both confidence and impact.
What was your most favourite job/role and why?
Roles where I’ve been able to build and scale something from the ground up. I ventured into Property Development with a global retail developer which took me abroad. It was a new industry and fast growing enterprise. It was a new role & function I was able to define in new leasing strategies in shopping centre development.
Whether it’s new growth functions, partnerships, or go-to-market strategies, those moments where you’re shaping direction and culture not just executing it are the most energising. They combine creativity, commerciality, and team leadership.
Do you have a favourite motto or quote that guides your professional life?
KYC!!! “know your customer”….. and I don’t mean identity requirements under the AML/CTF Act. ;)
It keeps decisions simple and grounded. If you genuinely understand customer needs, the strategy, priorities, and outcomes tend to follow.
One of my most inspiring leaders mottos….. Standards, Intensity + Positivity. It’s powerful when they are role modelled and used as a guide all in balance and good measure.”
