Sharing her career journey by answering the six questions below.
Who or what has been your biggest source of inspiration throughout your career?
Growing up, my mother was always a source of inspiration in the way she explored a variety of jobs using her strengths and skills. As I started my own career, I’ve found inspiration in a few leaders who have demonstrated the ability to remain grounded and be people centric, even in times of change or crisis.
Would you say your success is primarily due to luck or hard work?
My success has been due to people who have seen my work and put their faith in me and opened doors and given a hand up every step of the way, whether that was friends, managers, mentors or colleagues.
What is the driving force behind your career aspirations?
My first aspirations towards having a career came from seeing my mother balance learning new skills, family, work and helping people. As I started to find my grounding in my first job, I felt the joy of learning and being independent. Over time, I had the privilege of meeting people who made me aspire to become a better version of myself – leaders, peers, and many team members and colleagues.
If given the chance to do one thing differently in your career, what would it be and why?
The one thing I wish I’d have done differently is found a voice to share my perspective or to raise my hand to ask questions. Even today, it is not a natural habit, but I have made a more concerted effort to cultivate. I encourage people I mentor to start slow and start early.
What was your most favourite job/role and why?
It is hard to choose, but I really loved my time working with as a seller risk analyst for one of our key partners – One, it gave me the opportunity to set up a team from scratch and Two, it gave me a chance to look at all aspects of a partnership including contracts, each team’s perspectives on problems, and overall goals.
Do you have a favourite motto or quote that guides your professional life?
“Don’t forget where you came from, but always remember where you are going”” Especially in moment of change, confusion, and turmoil, it is important to remember where you come from – it anchors you to your character and your values. But it is equally important to keep your eyes forward and your focus to your goals.”
